As we prepared to relocate to San Juan Island, I had so many thoughts and dreams about what my next Pilates studio would look like. I dreamt of hardwood floors and lots of windows and natural light; I dreamt of walkability and the hustle and bustle of close neighboring businesses, and at the top of the list, was ground-floor space.…and the numbers had to work as well.  What I didn’t expect so quickly, was that I would stumble upon the space that has become my studio within 24 hours upon my arrival!

The Story:

After arriving on the island with our two bright yellow Penske moving trucks, the only priority was to get them unloaded and returned. It was early the next morning and I set out on the coffee run and I decided to drive around the downtown area in that beautiful early morning light, and take it all in.  The excitement I felt was touchable!

The ferry was loading and I wanted to go watch and that is when I saw the “For Lease” sign.  I remember smiling.  A few days later I phoned and came to see the space.  I loved it right away but wanted to see what else was available.  I spent a few weeks looking at the few various spaces that I found to be available and even brought my husband to look at a few, but nothing came close to what I had dreamt, except this space.

This space, in particular, had too many check marks in the “Pro” column than any of the others.  It offers wood floors, lots of natural light, it is super close to the main area of downtown, but is not right in the middle of it, and is street level, therefore, not requiring any stairs.  Convenient for year-round and seasonal residents, as well as those traveling from any of the surrounding islands and the mainland or Canada.  If you need to hop on a ferry to get to San Juan Island/Friday Harbor, you can easily choose to be a walk-on passenger and once the ferry docks, in about 200 steps (+/- depending on your stride), you can be at my studio’s entrance.

Now that I have been opened for a few months, reflecting back to that morning, I feel nothing but gratitude.  My philosophy has always been that everything happens for a reason and we might not understand “the reason” at the time, but usually figure it out sometime afterward.  I am overflowing with thankfulness.

I am thrilled to be a professional service option as you consider your steps in taking care of your body and mind. And I am equally thrilled to offer you a boutique Pilates studio full of Gratz and Pilates Design (Basil) apparatus.
